Public Gatherings bring all Raw Movement participants together, along with the public, to experiment with co-creating spaces of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety, through collective (movement) practice. Public gatherings and groups are also offered through partnerships with public organizations/institutions.

 Our Public Gatherings

Space Design Workshops & Courses: Co-Creating Spaces of Deep Connection. Through organizational partnerships, we facilitate small, informal, playful, and celebratory multi-day or multi-week groups that experiment with co-creating a space of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety, through collective (movement) practice. Facilitators guide groups to co-create the space using The Raw Movement Framework. (Academic) deconstructing of and experimentation with the Raw Movement Framework is a part of all workshops and courses. If you are interested in hosting a public group at your public organization/institution, e-mail team@rawmovement.org. We collaboratively design the workshops based on the needs, interests, desires, and feelings of those requesting the workshop and those participating.

Gatherings & Open Houses. Our public gatherings bring all Raw Movement participants together, along with the public, to experiment with co-creating spaces of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety, through collective (movement) practice. By collective movement practice, we mean the collective practice of moving physical energy in a space, using movement, art, and design. In a playful, celebratory, and recreational space,  we use grounding, moving, and deeply connecting collective movement practice, to explore and experiment with how we might gradually create space to collectively feel and express raw feelings/be our raw selves amidst our current collective experience (whether it be of joy, play, love, anger, union, grief, loss, death, suffering, transition), including expressing feelings, telling the truth, and approaching conflict. In the process, we develop and share our practices of creating spaces of deep connection. Raw Movement artists and partner groups lead us in experimenting with co-creating a space of deep connection, home, family through the collective (movement) practices they have been experimenting with. Together, we envision how the collective movement practice we’ve all created forms a part of the space of deep connection we are building. We invite artists, leaders of spaces of deep connection, and groups interested in collaborating, participating in, or supporting our upcoming activities into our home to experiment with co-creating a space of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety. We will invite each other to share our unique skills and leadership, as we reflect on, our own spaces of deep connection. We invite you to get to know us, move with us, commune with us, create the space with us and learn more about Raw Movement.

Space Design 101: Designing Our Spaces of Deep Connection & Raw Expression: Rebuilding Our Spaces To Make Space For Collective Grief, Suffering, Conflict, Tension, and Transition: Ancient Psychological, Energetic, and Medicinal Approaches. This class convenes artists, designers, futurists, scholars, and leaders of spaces of deep connection to reflect on our approaches to designing spaces of deep connection. How do we design our spaces of deep connection? Join community psychology PhD and artist Justina Kamiel Grayman, phd, as she explores her approach to inquiring about how we co-create spaces of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety. Through experimental games, activities, and story-drafting, she’ll invite us to explore how we are designing our spaces of deep connection. She’ll explore/invites us to truthfully see our past. We’ll reflect on the default toxicity within which our microsystems of disconnection – for example, the ways in which neurotypicalism, heterosexism, capitalism, ableism, transphobia, racism, classism, capitalism, etc., by default, have shown up in our daily spaces throughout our lives, in ways that created our sense of disconnection, grief, suffering, isolation (especially as folks who identify as neurodivergent, queer, disabled, etc.). She’ll explore/invite us to truthfully see our present collective grief, suffering, death, conflict, tension, and disconnection and the unseen and unexpressed feelings, dreams, visions, desires, secrets, and identities guiding our building of our spaces of deep connection. She’ll explore/invite us to see and connect our past, present, and future, by exploring space design for our collective grief, suffering, and disconnection.  She’ll share key questions she herself (and many of us) are asking as we explore how we co-create spaces of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety, through collective (movement) practice. She’ll explore the study of hidden ancient psychological, medicinal, and energetic approaches to designing spaces of deep connection as a resource for exploring our current questions. This series introduces Justina’s approach to inquiring about co-creating spaces of deep connection, home, family, emotional safety, The Raw Movement Framework. We invite professional, emerging, aspiring, and in-born artists, futurists, designers, scholars, scientists, medicine workers, and leaders of spaces of deep connection; families, groups, and communities committed to deep connection; and supporters of spaces of deep connection to gather, reflect on our collective past, present, and our approaches to designing our (future) spaces of deep connection.  E-mail team@rawmovement.org to inquire about hosting this workshop with your group, organization, or institution.

Collective (Movement) Practice 101Why We Disconnected from Dance & Movement Spaces: Invisible Dangers in Dance Microsystems & Creating Dance Homes That Honor Who We Are. This class convenes dance and movement artists for reflection on collective (movement) practice. In this class, we discuss our experiences of being untethered, not belonging, or being isolated in dance communities; why we’ve experienced that untethered-ness; the origins of the U.S. macrosystem culture of homogenizing, obeying, and excluding (in other words, we will discuss specific parts of the U.S. culture that has encouraged our feelings of not belonging); invisible features of microsystems we grew up in (in other words, we’ll discuss hard-to-see aspects of our immediate social environments growing up – family, school, college); our personal characteristics and how they interacted with invisible microsystem features to produce our lack of belonging (in other words, we’ll discuss how our personal characteristics and their lack of alignment with our social environments impacted our belonging); why many mental health spaces and dance spaces still contribute to our lack of belonging; how we may re-tether ourselves within dance and beyond; how we may create dance homes through collective raw movement research, practice and ritual. Collective (Movement) Practice 101 introduces fundamental principles of The Raw Movement Framework to movement and somatics artists and leaders. We invite professional, emerging, aspiring, and in-born (movement) artists and leaders of movement and somatic spaces of deep connection and supporters of movement/somatic spaces to gather, reflect on our collective past and present, along with our approaches to designing our movement/somatic spaces of deep connection. Participants will be invited to attend Raw Movement’s annual Open House, a space design convening and experience.  E-mail team@rawmovement.org to inquire about hosting this workshop with your group, organization, or institution.
